JAKARTA (IFT) – Companies interested to plant sugarcane at the Merauke Integrated Food Estate and Energy are still waiting for their land-clearing permits. Hadi Daryanto, Secretary General of the Ministry of Forestry, said that only PT Cendrawasih Jaya Mandiri and PT Karyabumi Papua (two-unit companies of PT Rajawali Corporatio) have received land-clearing principals.
The Ministry of Forestry requires firms to acquire approval from the provincial administrator. Therefore, the Ministry is waiting for the other companies to show their plantation business licenses and a recommendation letter to release a forest area granted by the Papua Administrator.
